National Walking Day: Should I Celebrate with My Walker?

When is National Walking Day? April 7!

Even with a walker, I should celebrate National Walking Day! I should exercise more. I should eat better. I should drink more water. Well, what is stopping me? We all know exercise is essential, but do we all incorporate exercise into our daily routine? Many people don't exercise or move because of excuses, which in their minds are perfectly understandable and provide the justification not to move. I don't have time. I have limitations. I'm in too much pain. I don't like it. And the list can go on and on. Of course, there are reasons why we don't do what is vital to gain/reclaim/maintain our health, and that is why we stay unhealthy. Take a step back from your rationale and dig deep into why you aren't making habits that healthy people do. What excuses are actual and which are just that, EXCUSES.

I understand how mobility issues could keep you from moving. I use a walker daily. I know how pain could keep you from moving; I understand many reasons for a sedentary lifestyle, but is it helping the situation? By not doing all the actions required for physical health (better nutrition, increased exercise, more sleep), are we willing to stay sick and hold tightly on to our reasons?

When you think you can't change, for whatever reason, look around. Is there someone in worse shape or suffering more than you performing these tasks? I know people look at me and think, "I'm so thankful I don't suffer with what she has," but let me be completely honest, there is always someone worse than me, and if they can still work to keep their health I figure I can too. So we've got the "being sick" role down; why not try the "getting healthy"?
