What are the symptoms of PTSD?
Let me introduce you to Jess Johnson. Her lesson in my “Travel the World of Healing” program outlines the use of Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as “tapping” for stress reduction. She is a former Army troop and a therapist turned life coach, specializing in helping people gain clarity around what truly fulfills them and feel confident in taking big steps towards lasting change. In this video sneak peek of her lesson, she explains how EFT/Tapping can help create distance in the brain from the terrible trauma that presents as PTS or PTSD.
What is PTS or PTSD?
PTSD or PTS, as it is becoming known, stands for Post Traumatic Stress (Disorder). Many health care workers are dropping the “D” to attempt to break the stigma and shame associated with having a “disorder.”
PTS/PTSD symptoms are generally grouped into four types:
Intrusive memories
Avoidance
Negative changes in thinking and mood
Changes in physical and emotional reactions
Symptoms can vary over time or vary from person to person.
Intrusive memories
Recurrent, undesirable, painful recollections of the traumatic event
Reliving the traumatic event as if it were happening again (flashbacks)
Disturbing dreams or terrors about the traumatic event
Extreme emotional distress or physical responses to something that reminds you of the traumatic event
Avoidance
Trying to avoid thinking or talking about the traumatic event
Detouring places, actions, or individuals that remind you of the trauma
Negative changes in thinking and mood
Negative thoughts about yourself, other individuals, or the world
Despair about the future
Memory difficulties, including not remembering essential characteristics of the traumatic event
Problem maintaining close relationships
Feeling disconnected from family and companions
Absence of interest in activities you once relished
Difficulty sharing positive emotions
Feeling unemotional
Changes in physical and emotional reactions
Being easily alarmed or frightened
Always being on watch for danger
